The winter season for wrestling has just began and everyone is excited. This year our girls team is coached by Armando Luna. The team consists of Sarah Hamilton, Brenda Rios, Asia Borisch, and Addison Fountain. Friday Nov. 30 at 11 a.m., the girls started the first tournament of the season. Bob Mars 12th annual wrestling tournament at Kennewick High School kicked off the season this year. The day started out with weigh-ins to set up the weight brackets and figure out who will be wrestling who. Once we set what weight class we were going to wrestle at we get all warm, eat a healthy snack and drink lots of water. about 1 hour before the tournament starts we warm up and stretch and get ready to go.

Wrestling starts by either the biggest weight or the smallest and goes up or down from there. Brenda Rios wrestles weight class 155 and placed 2nd in her bracket which means she only lost one match. Each weight has a winner and the winner often gets a medal or a shirt. the day is long and depending on if you win or loose  it decides how many more matches you have. Sarah Hamilton won 1 of her 3 matches and didnt place, Addison Fountain lost 2 and didnt place and Brenda places 2nd place in her bracket.

The tournament went from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. friday and was a great start for the season.  New girls got to have their first matches and experience their first ever tournament. Teams from all over Benton County and even further to Walla Walla came for the tournament and to compete against all types of wrestlers. Everyone was excited and beaming for their chance to prove themselves on the mat. This was a start to the season that will be remembered as a fantastic start to the winter 2018-2019 wrestling season
